Add extent

This function stores the currently visible extent of the view or updates an existing one (if the view has been zoomed using the tools Zoom In or Zoom Out , not the visible extent will be stored, but the rectangle you were dragging with the mouse).

Name of the Extent: Enter the name under which the extent shall be stored. The name of the most similar stored extent is proposed (i.e. overlaps most with the new one). This enables you to update existing extents easily. If you want to redefine this extent, just press the Enter key or click on the button.

New: If you don't enter a name but only a fixed scale (see below), the view will only be zoomed to the given scale - its extent is kept.

Access Key: If you insert the ampersand "&" in the name of the extent, the following char can be used to access this extent in the menu. Thereby often used extents can be assigned with an access key. If you assign the same key to multiple extents, only the first one in the alphabetic order can be accessed with it.

Fix Scale at 1: If you activate this checkbox the scale of the extent will be fixed at this value (if you don't enter a value, the extent will be fixed at the current scale). This means that the view is zoomed to the center of the extent using the desired scale. Thereby you can prevent varying scales if the size of the view or the width of the table of contents is changed. The scale is added like "1:100,000" at the end of the name. You can alter this scale by renaming the extent.

Note: If this scale is chosen smaller then the current one or the window size of the view will be enlarged afterwards, the visible extent will get larger as originally defined. If this scale is chosen larger than the current one or the window size of the view will be reduced a lot, the defined extent can't be fully displayed in the view!

Adjust View Size: If you activate this checkbox the view will be resized as large as possible and its aspect ratio will be adjusted to the aspect ratio of the extent. Therefore the desired extent will be displayed exclusively (if the scale is fixed too then the visible extent may be larger or smaller). The view will also be moved to the upper left corner if necessary. An exclamation mark "!" is added at the end of the name to mark these extents.

Note: When this option is not active, size and position of the view stay unchanged and the visible extent will be larger than the desired extent (depending on the aspect ratio of the view).

Overwrite existing extent <name>?: If there already is an extent with the same name in the project, it can be replaced by clicking on the button. After clicking on the button, another name for the new extent can be entered.

Note: In contrary to the extension Named Extents each extent is valid for all views of the project (not only for the active one). Overwriting an extent takes effect in all other views too.
